Are you happy? When asked that question, how do you feel? What are your first thoughts?
At our core, I believe we are meant to be happy. However, it is our idea of what happiness means that is skewed. I’ve seen clients thinking that to be happy with your life means to be “happy ever after” movie ending happy all the time. This is a pretty high bar to reach. It is also completely unattainable. We are human. This means that we have ups and downs, good days and bad days. But though all that, I believe we can be constantly happy.
I believe happiness is a state of being, not a moment, or a fleeting emotion.. I believe happiness is a continuous hum of contentment and peace. Accessing such happiness gives us a firm foundation to stand on, keeping us stable no matter what happens.
I know a lot of people do not feel this continuous state of happiness. Many people instead feel an unexplainable emptiness. They feel as if something is missing from their life or something isn’t right. Many people believe if just one big thing changed, like losing weight or making more money, they would find that happiness.
In my personal life experience, and in the experience I have witnesses with my clients, this is not true. You do not need to wait or rely on that one big thing to change in your life. It is in your power to shift into that state of happiness now.
